MPs urge government to pressure Israel on prisoners issue
AMMAN (Petra) The Lower House of Parliament assigned on Sunday its Committee on Palestine to follow up the issue of Jordanian prisoners and detainees in Israeli jails with the government and the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs and keep the house updated on this issue.
During a lengthy session dedicated to discussing this issue, the lawmakers urged the government to pressure Israel and threaten of canceling the Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty and the expel the Israeli ambassador from Amman if the prisoners are not released.
The deputies stressed that Israel must respect the Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty and to respond to the Jordanian demands and release all Jordanian prisoners.
They stressed that 'soft diplomacy' with Israel can not solve the issue of prisoners, therefore, the government is required to use all political and legal papers its has to ensure the release of the prisoners.
The legislators called for addressing all Arab and international parliamentary unions to highlight the real suffering Jordanian and Palestinian prisoners and detainees are subject to in Israeli jails.
