Salafi Jihadis protest in front of PM house to release detainees
AMMONNEWS - Members of the hardliner Salafi Jiihadi current in Jordan protested on Saturday afternoon in front of the house of Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour calling for the release of Salafi detainees.
Proponents of the ultra-conservative Salafi Jihadi current headed to the Prime Minister's house in Salt, northwest of Amman, also demanding scrapping all charges brought against Salafi detainees, transferring their cases to civilian courts, and reconsidering the jurisdictions of the State Security Court, Jordan's military tribunal that tries cases related to state security, terrorism, narcotics, and state economic crimes.
The protesters also called for improving the conditions of detainees in Jordanian prisons.
The protest reportedly comes in part of a series of 'escalating measures' launched by the Salafi Jihadi current to protest the continued detention of members affiliated with the movement.
The group previously protested in front of the Prime Ministry headquarters, but the government did not issue any response, according to the protesters.
