AMMAN (Jordan Times) — The National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA) recently introduced a three-day paternity leave for its male employees, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The decision is in line with the NCFA’s role to lead by example in bettering the conditions of Jordanian families, Petra reported.
Mohammad Miqdady, NCFA acting secretary general, said this step was a result of the council’s belief in the necessity of family unity.
He added that it is also part of the NCFA’s inclusive policy, which believes that women and men have the same rights, obligations and family commitments.
The NCFA also ratified a 90-day maternity leave for its female employees, in accordance with the Civil Service Law, while the Labour Law grants women 70 days, Petra reported.
Minister of Public Sector Development Khleef Al Khawaldeh told The Jordan Times earlier this year that the ministry was also considering adding paternity leave to the annual leave of public sector employees.
Khawaldeh said the new leave would contribute positively to the relationship between partners, since they will be able to share the “moments and responsibilities of giving birth”.
