AMMAN (Petra) – Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Amin Mahmoud met on Tuesday with a delegation from Australia's Macquarie University to discuss the possibility of launching a Jordanian-based Arab-Australian educational project.
During the meeting, the minister underscored the importance of cooperation in the academic and educational fields between Jordan and friendly countries. He also stressed the Kingdom's desire to develop cooperation, pointing out that such pioneering and joint projects would cement existing relations, knowledge transfers and exchanges of experts.
The public and private sector should cooperate to improve the quality of education, the minister said, stressing the need for the nation’s educational output to meet labor market requirements in various specializations.
Head of the visiting delegation, Peter Anderson, said that Jordan enjoys many advantages within the Middle East, assuring that the idea behind such a project would be both pioneering and successful.
Further, he added that Jordan and its culture, history and antiquities qualify it to become the launching pad for many important educational projects.
The delegation also included Catherine Charlton, Regional Director, Middle East and Africa at Macquarie University, which had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Jordanian universities.
