AMMAN (Petra) — Blood donors constitute 3.4 per cent of the Kingdom's population, which is estimated at 6.5 million, Ahmad Qteitat, head of the Health Ministry’s hospitals directorate, said during a ceremony on Sunday.
He noted that the donors provide enough supply to the National Blood Bank to cover the Kingdom's medical sector.
At a ceremony marking World Blood Donor Day, which is observed annually on June 14, Karim Yarfas, head of the ministry’s blood directorate, said blood banks gathered around 200,000 units of blood in 2012, of which 48.5 per cent were from voluntary donors.
