AMMONNEWS - The Amman Court of Appeals on Sunday decided to accept a bail request to release a former member of parliament and candidate who ran in the parliamentary elections on Wednesday from prison.
The court judge Qassim Momani decided to release Ghazi Elayyan, who was being detained on charges related to vote-buying and use of political money.
Elayyan is a former MP and was running in the latest race in Amman's second district. He failed to win a seat in the 17th parliament, after getting 4,269 votes that did not qualify him a competing seat.
Elayyan, who is being detained at Jweideh prison pending investigation into allegations of vote-buying and use of political money, was rushed to a Hospital in Amman on Thursday and was put under observation for 24 hours in the Intensive Care Unit after suffering from symptoms of a stroke.
Elayyan suffered from severe in blood pressure and symptoms of a stroke, according to medical sources, Ammon News learned.
Last week, Southern Amman Public Prosecutor ordered the detention of Ghazi Elayyan over charges of vote-buying and use of political money.
Elayyan was a representative in Amman's second district in the 16th parliament.
The candidate faces charges of vote-buying and use of political money to influence voters, in accordance with article 63 A of the 2012 Elections Law, less than a week before the parliamentary elections were held on Wednesday.
Ammon News learned that the Preventative Security Department had questioned Elayyan on Friday, and referred his case to the Public Prosecutor.
Elayyan was ordered arrested and detained for 15 days pending investigation into the charges.
