AMMONNEWS - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) announced investigating an employee at the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) for allegedly issuing forged business permits in return for cash payments.
ACC said that the investigation revealed that GAM representative at the Amman Chamber of Industry Tareq Harasees issued business permits for individuals who did not meet the conditions and requirements of business permits in return for cash payments, reaching JD 1,000 per permit.
The case has been referred to the Public Prosecutor at ACC, who charged the employee with charges of forgery and accepting bribes, and ordered his detention for 15 days pending investigation.
The investigation revealed the employee had issued five fraudulent permits.
Individuals benefitting from the permits testified that they paid JD 1,000 for each permit in payment for the business permit.
The GAM employee had worked as GAM's representative at the Amman Chamber of Industry, with a job description of renewing current business permits, but has no jurisdiction to issue new permits.
