U.S. ambassador to Syria calls for int'l aid to Jordan
AMMAN (Petra) U.S. ambassador to Syria Robert Ford said on Sunday Jordan is a pivotal country in Middle East stability and stressed international support of the Kingdom to deal with the aftermath of the Syrian crisis in its neighbour.
Ford said during a meeting with Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh that he commended Jordan's enormous efforts in receiving and providing services to a growing number of Syrian refugees fleeing the conflict in their country.
Judeh reiterated Jordan's call for finding a political solution to stop the bloodshed in Syria and urged the international community to take its responsibility towards the escalating conflict and its repercussions on Jordan and regional states. They also stressed support for the opposition Syrian National Coalition.
Judeh briefed the envoy on the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict, noting that the Kingdom had received hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees despite the tough economic conditions. He stressed that the Kingdom will continue to host the displaced people upon the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah.
