Amman, Petra) Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Monday met the head and members of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria and said Jordan is not party to the ongoing conflict in its neighbour but deals with the crisis on national and humanitarian grounds by hosting Syrian refugees.
During the meeting, attended by Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Ensour reiterated that Jordan backs a political solution to halt the bloodshed and the violence.
Saying that Jordan had received wave after wave of forced migrations throughout its history, Ensour said the Kingdom is prepared for all eventualities as the violence in Syria escalates.
Head of the U.N. commission Paulo Pinheiro gave a briefing on the panel's efforts to monitor the human rights situation in Syria, adding that what is happening there 'is unacceptable and against humanity.' He praised Jordan for receiving Syrian refugees and providing basic humanitarian assistance to them, noting that the Kingdom is among the countries most affected by the Syrian crisis and calling on the international community to help it carry the burden of accommodating the displaced people.
