Jordan allows Jerusalemites to issue, renew passports

Ammon News - Acting Director-General of the Civil Status and Passports Department, Talal Fayez, said that the department has launched new services for the Jerusalemites, in coordination with the Jordan Post Company (JPC) and the Chief Justice Department in Jerusalem.

In a press conference held Monday, Fayez added that the new services came in line with the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II; To make it easier for the Jerusalemites to obtain documents from the department.

For his part, Acting Chief Justice in Jerusalem Wasef Bakri expressed his gratitude to the Civil Status Department and the Jordanian Post for the understandings that led to the announcement of a new package of services for the people of Jerusalem.

The services are aimed at alleviating the burdens that fall on the people of Jerusalem, he added.

JPC Board Chairman Sami Al Dawood, said that the company is working hard to provide services to the Jerusalemites.

The process of transferring the people of Jerusalem's documents to Amman takes place in partnership and cooperation with the Palestinian Distribution and Logistics Services Company "WASSEL", Al Dawood said.

He noted that the JPC is working to consolidate partnership with ministries, government departments and institutions, as this agreement is a qualitative addition to the services provided by it.

Beginning on July 15, new services will be available, which are:

- Accepting and issuing passports for Jerusalemites for the first time without age restrictions.

- Jordanian citizens married to Jerusalemite spouses, possessing a Jerusalem ID and a national number, will be able to apply for passport issuance and renewal for themselves and their children through the Sharia Court in Jerusalem.

- Additionally, individuals of both genders holding a temporary passport ("West Bank") and married to a Jerusalemite spouse with a Jerusalem ID and a personal number will have the exclusive opportunity to apply for passport renewal through the Sharia Court in Jerusalem.

- Allowing he Jordanian citizen who holds a national number and a civil will to register and issue civil documents such as marriage, divorce, death and birth certificates.

- Allowing the Jordanian citizen residing in Jerusalem to apply for the renewal of the family book.
