Former health minister Ishaq Maraqa passes away, Jordan pays tribute

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) ––Former health minister Ishaq Maraqa passed away on Sunday.

Maraqa, who was born in 1934 in Hebron, served in the Royal Medical Services between 1964-1978 and served as president of the Jordan Medical Association from 1990 to 1994.

Maraqa, a neurosurgeon, chaired the neurosurgery committee at the Jordanian Medical Council, before serving as health minister in the late 1990s.

During his life, Maraqa received several medals including Al Istiklal Medal of the First Order.

Prime Minister Samir Rifai paid tribute on Sunday to Maraqa, recalling Maraqa's long career in sincere and fruitful contributions to the country.

Maraqa had suffered a heart attack while he was driving his car, a medical source told 'Ammon News.'

The former minister was on his way to Ibn Al Haitham hospital, where he headed a neurosurgical committee, and suffered a heart attack causing his car to crash into a wall near the hospital.
