Jordanian proposal at Council of Arab Information Ministers

The Executive Office of the Council of Arab Information Ministers will hold a meeting in the Kuwaiti Capital in the middle of March.

The meeting comes to discuss a set pf topics, including the draft Arab Law to regulate the relationship with international media (social communication), which the Kingdom for the submitted to the Council last November.

Ammon reported that the Arab League's General Secretariat had received various comments regarding the Jordanian project.

In three paths, the project seeks to control connections with international media companies. The first is to protect Arab concerns from the negatives of publication on these platforms, particularly the Palestinian cause and Islamophobia.

The second path is about to deleting content on issues of hate speech, false news, and assaults on privacy.

As for the third track, in the Jordanian proposal it relates to media rights in the advertising market, of which social media platforms have begun to acquire the largest share.

According to official figures released by the Central Bank, social media, excluding TikTok, made $81 million from local market advertisements in 2022.

European countries consider the social media advertising market as their property and a media right, which, if adopted, would help the local and Arab media.
