Ammon News - Head of Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI), Fathi Jaghbir, stressed the importance of the newly-launched solar energy project targeting Jordan's industrial sector.

Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) oversaw the project's preparatory phase over more than a year and a half, which led to establishment of Shams Specialized Renewable Energy Company (SSREC), Jaghbir said in a statement on Sunday.

The project, he noted, aims to provide electric power to factories at preferential prices, which will enhance the national industries' competitiveness in the local and export markets.

Jaghbir, who is the ACI head, lauded Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources's efforts to support the enterprise, the first of its kind in Jordan and the region, in terms of its shareholders, which makes it a model for more ventures in the future.

Meanwhile, SSREC Chairman, Abdullah Shawabkeh, said the company was established , after the Cabinet’s decision was issued during the second half of 2018 approving its launch, adding a joint technical joint, representing Jordan's industrial chambers, was formed to follow up on implementation of the project’s procedures, by obtaining the required approvals.

Approvals included allocating a land plot to build the project on, and obtaining an approval to connect the plant's 100 MW generated capacity with the electrical grid, he noted, highlighting the project's strategy in supporting the industrial sector and reducing its energy costs.

The company's registered capital is JD1 million, with contributions of 87 Jordanian industrial companies, he noted , adding that the project's tender was floated to implement a solar power plant with a capacity of 100 MW in September 2021.
