Ammon News - In a first in the Kingdom, the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) has introduced a robotic surgery system that is hoped to assist doctors to perform minimally invasive surgeries.

Doctors at the center have already used the system and successfully removed a cancerous mass from a patient, according to a KHCC statement released Tuesday.

"We are proud that Jordan has accessed the latest surgical technology that will have a significant impact on advancing the treatment we provide to our patients," said Her Royal Highness Princess Ghida Talal, chairperson of the board of trustees of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center (KHCF) and (KHCC).

She added: "Our commitment to keeping abreast with the latest developments in cancer treatment is part of the mission of the KHCF and KHCC to embrace cancer patients and treat them in a holistic manner and according to the highest international standards."

The system allows surgeons to perform complex surgeries with greater control, accuracy and flexibility than conventional surgery. It also speeds up postoperative recovery because it is already minimally invasive. In addition, it will reduce patient waiting times for surgery appointments.

Nevertheless, the use of robotics will be decided by doctors and in certain surgeries such as prostatectomy, nephrectomy, hysterectomy and colectomy.
