Ammon News - Very cold weather conditions are expected to prevail on Sunday countrywide, with clouds at low altitudes, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily update.

In the afternoon, the Kingdom will be affected by a depression centered over Turkey, bringing rainfall in the northern and central regions, extending to parts of the southwestern regions.

During the late night hours, light flurries of rain-mixed snow will fall over the highlands and winds will be westerly active, with strong gusts of dust in desert areas, the JMD added.

In its report, the JMD warned of the danger of frost formation in the early morning and late night hours, especially over the highlands and parts of the Badia regions. It also warned of slippery roads in the areas witnessing rainfall, and of low horizontal visibility in the mountainous areas due to the formation of fog and low clouds.

On Monday, a significant drop in mercury levels is forecast and the weather will be very cold, with continued downpour during daytime in the Kingdom's northern, central and southwestern regions, the JMD said.

Cold weather will persist on Tuesday despite a slight rise in temperatures, with clouds at low altitudes and southeasterly moderate winds.

Today, the maximum and minimum temperatures in eastern Amman will range from 9 Celsius degrees to 1C during night, while highs in western Amman will be 7C and lows at 0C. The Gulf of Aqaba will see a fair 16C, dropping to 7C at night hours.
