Ammon News - The Kingdom's coronavirus czar on Thursday said that the omicron mutant now accounts for 55 percent of new infections, adding that by Friday, the Kingdom is expected to have recorded a weekly caseload of about 26,000, the highest in weeks.
Adel Bilbeisi, health adviser at the prime minister's office and the official in charge of the COVID-19 crisis, told Petra that the fourth wave of the pandemic started two weeks ago and is expected to last 4 to 6 weeks.
Bilbeisi said he expects the infections to reach a peak in mid-February before the caseload starts a downward trajectory. He described current virus-related admissions to hospitals as limited and at comforting levels, indicating that only 597 cases are now receiving institutional care.
