EU-funded waste recycling project kicks off activities

Ammon News - The Solid Waste Management Unit at the Ministry of Local Administration on Sunday, held 1st joint dialogue with the target local community, within the EU-funded "Waste Recycling in Mediterranean Basin" project.

The project's director, Hamza Shehab, said its activities seek to introduce the concept of recycling as a "modern and exemplary" lifestyle that preserves nature and serves the local community economically and socially by recycling clothing, furniture, and electronic devices.

This projected scheme also aims to produce organic fertilizer from agricultural waste, Shehab noted, adding that project's stages will start from the new Deir Alla municipality in central Balqa governorate.

The participants, for their part, affirmed their readiness to provide the necessary facilitations to enable the local community to grasp recycling skills.

On action to carry out the project's plans, the participants recommended the launch of an awareness team to highlight its activities and distribute "large" containers to selected farms to collect garments in the seven regions of Deir Alla municipality.
