Agriculture minister meets Ukrainian, WB officials on sector's issues

Ammon News - Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat on Tuesday met with Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmytro Senik, for a discussion on ties between Jordan and Ukraine, especially related to facilitating goods exchange between the two sides.

During the meeting, attended by Ukraine Ambassador to Jordan, Myroslava Shcherbatiuk, Hneifat stressed the importance of the climate in Jordan, especially in the field of producing vegetables and fruits of high quality, especially winter crops, which are witnessing an increase in prices during this season.

Both officials discussed the importance of operating a center for Ukrainian grains.

On the other hand, Hneifat held meeting with representative from the World Bank office in Amman, agricultural economist, Tobias Baedeker for the Middle East and North Africa.

The meeting discussed themes that must be developed, especially the use of advanced water technology that depends on the use of water with latest methods.

The meeting also emphasized on encouraging agricultural industries projects and establishing filling, grading and cooling centers in production areas and near central markets in order to reduce waste.

The meeting touched on the need to increase forest afforestation operations and the cultivation of areas that need patching, with the cultivating and sustaining the desert road, as well as the need to support rural development projects and establish permanent bazaars and exhibitions in all governorates of the Kingdom to reduce unemployment and poverty.

Hneifat said that these themes are key to the development of the sector, as their harmony and positive interaction support the sector's renaissance and its continuity in light of pressures and regional changes.
