Ammon News - The Ministry of Health signed Wednesday a letter of intent with the Jordan Red Crescent Society (JRCS) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to provide logistical support for the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

The letter of intent was signed by the Minister of Health, Firas Hawari, the Ministry's Secretary-General of Epidemiological Affairs, Adel al-Balbisi, the Vice President of the JRCS, Omar Abu Qura, the Head of the ICRC, Sarah Avrillaud, and the Coordinator of the ICRC's Health Department.

Under the letter, the ICRC will support the ministry's national COVID-19 vaccination campaign by providing logistical support and communication tools to mobile vaccination teams, in addition to implementing community outreach activities.

The logistical support involves providing the vaccination teams with 30 rental cars, vaccine cooling carriers and telecommunications tools (mobile phones, 30 tablets and an Internet connection) to ensure a smooth and effective vaccination, to which residents of remote areas have access.

Meanwhile, the JRCS will provide a number of volunteers to implement community awareness activities by disseminating reliable health information about vaccination against the COVID-19 and encouraging communities to receive the jab.

Hawari stressed that the concerted efforts in Jordan between the various state institutions had a great impact in providing sufficient resources and services to address the ramifications of the pandemic on public health after the outbreak in late December 2019.

The "qualitative initiative," he indicated, comes in implementation of the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to increase vaccination rates by delivering vaccines across the Kingdom.

He stressed that the ministry, in cooperation with its strategic partners, will endeavor to immunize every home and family to maintain their safety and reduce the death rates caused by the coronavirus.

Jordan, he noted, was able to secure 17 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to cover its immunization needs, stressing that these efforts helped curb the spread of the disease and its complications among Jordanians, residents and refugees.
