Jordan's health minister Monday said the health ministry will open a centre that would offer life support programmes accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA).

In a meeting with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Sarah Avrillaud to discuss training cooperation, Minister of Health Feras Hawari said the centre, which is slated to open next week, is the first centre dedicated to offer training for the staff of the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The centre will offer MoH staff with trainings in accordance with the latest international standards and as per the AHA standards

The programmes suggested would provide the Ministry's staff with the skills they need to treat urgent heart failure cases, Hawari said, adding that the trainees will be trained at the hands of trainers accredited by the AHA.

He said there will be practical and paper-based exams for those who would undertake the programmes.

The ICRC agreed to fund the establishment of a training centre in the Ministry HQ; it would offer training on how to act in case of emergency. In addition, it would offer training on how medical staff can protect themselves in case they were attacked.

The ICRC also pledged to support the MoH in its national vaccination campaign against COVID-19; this would be through providing logistical support: vaccination equipment and transport support for the vaccination teams.

Also, the ICRC offered a JOD34,000 worth of medical equipment to the Karak Public Hospital.
