The government has exempted double-jabbed truck drivers heading to Iraq from Covid-19 PCR testing, Deputy president of the Truck Owners Syndicate Nael Thiabat announced Monday.

The Ministry of Interior has agreed to a recommendation by the Border Crossings Regulatory Commission to allow Jordanian truck drivers who were double vaccinated in the Kingdom to cross and return via land border posts without PCR test.

Thiabat told Petra in an interview that 120 crude tankers headed to Iraq during the last 48 hours after about 450 transporters obtained Iraqi visas.

He stressed the importance of the government's decision and demanded that Iraqi transporters crossing to the Kingdom be included in the decision or get a free PCR test "to apply the principle of reciprocity and ensure the smooth movement of freight between the two countries."

Thiabat pointed to the delays caused by PCR testing at the border and crowding of trucks, most of which are crude tankers, and the risks involved due to the desert heat.
