In its meeting on Sunday, The Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System, headed by its Chair Samir Rifai, approved its Political Parties subcommittee's outcomes.

Last Wednesday, the committee approved outcomes of its youth and women, and local administration subcommittees, as it is scheduled to complete its work by the end of September by preparing a document on its final visions to be submitted to His Majesty King Abdullah II.

In his interview with "Petra," Head of the Parties Committee, Adnan Sawair, said the draft Political Parties, which was approved by the Royal Committee, establishes a "new" stage of party programme-based work, by pushing party participation in Jordan's parliamentary elections and government formation, and allowing university students to join parties.

The draft law, he said, allowed party membership electronically, and limited tenure of a party’s secretary-general only to two terms, in addition to giving parties a 1-year period to align their status according to the new conditions.

Under the new recommendations, he said a party's founding members should stand at 1,000 from at least six governorates, a minimum of 30 people from each governorate, of which about 20% are given for both women and youth.

The Royal Committee continues to discuss the draft Election Law and and the Constitutional Amendments subcommittee's outcomes.
