Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Krishan on Saturday visited Aqaba, as part of a series of tours to the various municipalities of the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

These visits come in implementation of the Royal directives to communicate with citizens to find appropriate solutions to the challenges facing the Kingdom’s municipalities, identify the most pressing problems and act to solve them. The Royal directives stress the important role of municipalities as building blocks of democracy and political development.

Krishan pointed out that major problems facing municipalities are the unorganised construction work and the lack of basic services, such as electricity, roads and water.

Krishan met with the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority and was briefed on the most important challenges facing the city of Aqaba.

The minister appointed cleaners to enhance the hygiene of the city.

With regard to the problems of regulating construction, the minister stressed that the ministry is preparing a comprehensive plan for all regions of the Kingdom. The plan will help address problems related to construction on agricultural land, which has decreased at the expense of urbanisation.

Krishan also pointed out that to address unemployment, organisations should work to replace expatriate workers with local workers, especially in the municipalities.
