Ammon News - Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh said Tuesday that his government is committed to forging ahead with public sector reform and removing bureaucratic hindrances as the keystone in the comprehensive reform process, Petra reported.

He said during a ceremony inaugurating the renovation of the Institute of Public Administration building, which was launched in cooperation with the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the premier cited His Majesty King Abdullah's repeated directives for revamping the public administration as the cornerstone of the comprehensive reform process.

Since its foundation in 1968, the institute has provided state institutions with administrative competencies as part of its contributions to the building and development process, not only in Jordan, but also in many Arab countries, noting that Jordanian expertise is recognized by Arab and friendly countries, he said.

"Today we see the inauguration of this phase in the development of the Institute of Public Administration and modernization of its facilities in line with best model training institutions in the world," he told the ceremony, commending the strategic Jordanian-US partnership.

"We look forward to a new start to restore the brilliance of the Institute of Public Administration, which offered administrative leaders to the public sector who led the development process in the first centennial of the Jordanian state," he said.

Khasawneh expressed hope that the institute will be up to the task to revamp public administration in the second centennial and remedy the shortcomings, pledging the government's support for the institute and to provide it with new administrative skills to enhance the principles of good governance, according to Petra.

He said the government is committed to forging a real partnership with the private sector to address the key challenges of poverty and unemployment, and that it will automate public services and fight red tape.

Civil Service Bureau President, chairman of the Steering Committee of the Institute, Sameh Al-Nasser, said the institute's new bylaw, which was issued in 2019, expanded its role and set its objectives to include raising the efficiency and capacity of civil service staff to carry out their tasks and enhance governance, integrity, transparency and the rule of law in the public sector.

He said the institute will continue the training process despite the circumstances imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.

US ambassador Henry Wooster pledged his country's support to the government's efforts to rejuvenate the institute's role as a provider of specialized and high-quality training of the public sector administration, adding the project is an evidence of the permanent partnership between our two countries and the US commitment to supporting Jordan to achieve a more efficient public sector.
