Health Ministry: 62 new virus deaths, 3,145 cases registered in Kingdom

Sixty-two coronavirus deaths and 3,145 cases were recorded in various parts of the Kingdom Saturday, bringing the death toll to 7,708 deaths and the caseload since the pandemic began to 662,395, the Health Ministry said.

The new infections were: 1,032 in Amman, 640 in Irbid, including 94 in Ramtha district, 534 in Zarqa, 198 in Mafraq, 112 in Jerash, 110 in Karak, 108 in Madaba, 97 in Aqaba, 95 in Ajloun, 91 in Balqa, 75 in Tafileh and 53 in Ma'an, including 31 in Petra, according to the daily media brief by the Health Ministry and the Prime Ministry.

It said that the number of currently active cases stood at 66,334 and that 249 were today admitted to hospitals and 180 were discharged, adding that the total number of confirmed cases being hospitalized reached 2,835.

On the capacity of hospitals in the Kingdom, the statement said that the occupancy rate of isolation beds in the northern region was at 44 per cent, intensive care beds 74 per cent and ventilators 51 per cent.

In the Central region, isolation beds were at an occupancy rate of 56 per cent, ICU beds at 70 per cent and ventilators 39 per cent, it said.

In the south, it added, the occupancy rate of isolation beds reached 28 per cent, ICU beds 42% and ventilators 31 per cent.

The report also said that 7,183 COVID-19 patients recovered today in home isolation and in hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 588,353.

It said that 24,854 PCR tests were collected today, bringing the total number of tests conducted since the start of the epidemic to 6,294,123, and that the positivity rate today was about 12.65 per cent, below the rate of 12.39 recorded yesterday.
