1 hour allowed to perform Friday prayer, going to mosques on foot: Awqaf Minister

 Awqaf Minister, Mohammad Khalaileh, said that worshipers on Friday will be allowed a one-hour break during the lockdown to perform prayers provided that they would go to mosques on foot.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Prime Ministry on Wednesday, Khalaileh said that on Thursday morning of each week the hour of Friday prayer will determined.

Khalaileh called for preserving mosques to remain places of worship and calling to God, by adhering to health procedures and instructions for wearing face masks, physical distancing, and bringing a special rug for prayer.

He indicated that scholars granted permission to the sick, the elderly and the young to pray at home to avoid transmitting the disease and preserve the safety of everyone.

The Awqaf Minister called for praying in squares adjacent to mosques in order to maintain physical distancing and limit the spread of disease.

He also called on Imams to deliver no more than 10-minute Friday sermon, and advise people to be careful and confront the pandemic by following safety instructions, as well s opening the mosques' windows when performing prayers.
