Prime Minister, Dr. Bisher Khasawneh, held talks in Cairo with the Egyptian Prime Minister, Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, on Thursday, on ways to strengthen bilateral relations in its various fields and maintain coordination and communication to enhance them.
During the discussions, the duo affirmed the "deep-rooted, brotherly" relations between Jordan and Egypt, under attention paid by His Majesty King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, and the two leaderships' directives on the necessity of keenness and joint action, on a permanent basis, to strengthen these ties and push cooperation to its highest levels in a way that serves common interests.
The two premiers also noted the joint Jordanian-Egyptian position on consultation and coordination on all issues of common interest to serve Arab issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue, in a manner that guarantees establishment of an independent and viable sovereignty Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution in a way that achieves comprehensive and just peace in the region and brings about its security and stability.
On future bilateral action, the two PMs agreed to hold meetings of the Joint Jordanian-Egyptian Higher Committee in its 29th session in Amman, in the coming weeks, and to convene coordination and preparatory talks in advance to cover various aspects of joint cooperation.
Moreover, the talks went over a number of cooperation aspects, such as energy, gas, electrical connectivity and among other areas, in a way that achieves common interests.
The two PMs stressed the importance of strengthening the trilateral Jordanian-Egyptian-Iraqi cooperation in all sectors, especially energy and trade exchange, pointing to the importance of the outcomes of this collaboration to achieve common interests, and to form the basis for broader Arab cooperation, in a way that achieves Arab countries' interests.
During the talks, Khasawneh emphasized the "historic, strategic" relations between Jordan and Egypt, describing them as a "model in all their aspects," and the keenness of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to give these ties lasting momentum to serve common interests.
Khasawneh referred to the mutual visits between His Majesty King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, as well as coordination and permanent consultation.
Pointing to the importance of the Egyptian President's visit to Amman last month, Khasawneh said:" All are always looking forward to Cairo's pioneering role at the Arab, regional and international levels."
Khasawneh referred to the trilateral integration mechanism between Jordan, Egypt and Iraq and the possibility of expanding this cooperation to include Arab countries, and to be a gateway of the Arab world to the world, in a way that serves Arab interests.
Continuing: "We have agreed to hold a meeting of the Joint Jordanian-Egyptian Higher Committee at its next session in Amman in the coming weeks," pointing to the panel's importance in institutionalizing various aspects of bilateral cooperation, within a strategic and institutional framework and continuing to activate all its outcomes.
During the coming period, officials in the two countries' ministries and institutions will exchange to coordinate and prepare for the work of the joint higher committee, given importance of its outcomes to enhance bilateral cooperation, Khasawneh announced.
Pointing out to the Egyptian expats' contributions in Jordan, Khasawneh said they receive all attention, and Amman's "lasting" appreciation.
The two countries dedicate their diplomatic efforts and invest their wide and close relations with the countries worldwide to serve Arab interests and issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, in a way that guarantees the establishment of an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution and achieving just, comprehensive peace , security and stability in the region, according to Khasawneh.
For his part, Egyptian premier affirmed the "deep-rooted" relations between the two countries and the joint keenness to enhance cooperation ties in various fields, adding that there are promising prospects and possibilities to achieve the best aspects of joint collaboration.
Pointing to the importance of convening the Jordanian-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee in Amman in the coming weeks, the Egyptian PM said its outcomes could include signing memoranda of understanding (MoU) and agreements to achieve mutual benefits, in the context of "sound" preparation of its agenda.
Egypt, as is Jordan, share common keenness to achieve common interests in the "best way," and is always looking seriously to open horizons for additional cooperation in all fields, according to the Egyptian PM.
The Egyptian official also referred to the framework of trilateral cooperation and integration between Egypt, Jordan and Iraq, the importance of this mechanism and its reflection on the common interests at this stage and its development to a wider range in the coming stages.
Minister of Industry and Trade, Maha Al-Ali and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hala Zawati, who attended the talks, highlighted the prospects of cooperation areas in the fields of energy, electricity, industry and trade, stressing the importance of continued discussions to hold the joint committee meetings scheduled to be convened in Amman during the coming weeks to further institutionalize bilateral cooperation.
