Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Council of Ministers Sunday endorsed the first batch of measures required to be carried out within an action plan to spur economic growth, boost the business environment and eventually improve Jordan's ranking in the 2018 Doing Business report.

Prime Minister Hani Mulki, who chaired today's cabinet meeting, directed all ministries and concerned entities to immediately implement the measures, each within its field of competence, with accountability by those who fail to do so. That will better Jordan's rank in the World Bank's Doing Business report, which measures economies worldwide.

Planning and international cooperation minister Imad Fakhoury said in a statement that the cabinet, through his ministry and the Ministerial Economic Committee, began adoption of the first set of decisions that will be taken in the coming weeks and months with the aim of stimulating the national economy's growth potential in line with the 2025 Jordan Document and the government's action plan on the basis of which it won the Lower House's confidence.

The first set of measures, he said, included decisions to improve the business environment, particularly the start of business, property registration, finance, taxes, construction licenses and handling insolvency to protect investors.

The minister said other sets of measures related to the recommendations of the Royal Committee for Developing the Judiciary, including enforcing contracts, business litigation procedures and economic and investment activity, will follow.

He said a key part of implementation will be carried out in a full partnership with the Parliament, which is currently working to accomplish "very important" legislations that will help in this endeavour, including the securities, insolvency and moveable assets bills as well as the Property Ownership draft law, which the cabinet recently approved and passed to the House, and the economic National Inspection draft.

The legislations and measures, he stressed, will improve the business climate, enable Jordanian youth to start small enterprises, increase the national economy's capacity to employ Jordanians and ultimately prop up the economy's competitiveness, reflect positively on consumers and increase investments that will contribute to solving the problems of poverty and unemployment.
