Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan will not allow those who seek refuge in Jordan to meddle in its affairs and attempt to jeopardize its stability, Minister of Interior Hussein Majali told Islamists on Sunday.

In a meeting with leaders of the Islamist movement in Jordan, including Secretary General of the Islamic Action Front (IAF) Hamzeh Mansour, Minister Majali discussed with the Islamists events that took place on Friday during a demonstration in downtown Amman calling for political and economic reforms.

The Minister expressed concern that non-Jordanians, in particular Syrian nationals, engaged in chanting anti-regime slogans against Jordan and slogans that concern domestic Jordanian affairs.

Majali said that around 270 Syrians took part in the demonstration, out of a total 800 protesters, which was organized by the Islamist movement to express rejection of Hezbollah and Iran's military support to Assad's regime in Syria.

The Minister said that Syrians have the right to freedom of expression but would not be permitted to attempt to attack Jordan, its symbols, or figures, Jordan News Agency Petra reported.

"We, the Jordanian state, will not allow those who sought refuge in the security and safety of Jordan to attempt to jeopardize its stability and meddle in its affairs," Majali said, adding that Jordan will take stern legal and administrative measures against such violations against the sovereignty of Jordan.

On their part, Islamist leaders stressed during the meeting their keenness and commitment not to allow any outside forces to interfere in Jordan's domestic affairs.

Majali relayed that the Islamist leaders noted that non-Jordanians' participation in the demonstration may have taken place without the knowledge of the organizers, Petra's report added.

Hundreds had taken to downtown Amman on Friday in a demonstration to protest the ongoing crisis in Syria, blasting Lebanon's Hezbollah and Iran for aiding the regime of Bashar al Assad in the continued bloodshed witnessed in the neighboring country.

The protesters also called for tangible political and economic reforms in Jordan.
