Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Security forces in Jordan are not tools of oppression, Public Security Directorate (PSD) chief said on Monday, but are instructed to deal with instigators of riots and chaos "firmly."
In a press conference held during the 21st Asian Regional INTERPOL Conference that commenced today in Amman, General Hussein Hazza' Majali said "there is nothing called soft or harsh policing in dealing with instigators of riots and chaos, in executing the law, there is only 'firm security."
The firm method of dealing with criminals and instigators of chaos that the security forces have adopted have not led to any casualties or damages, Majali said, stressing that Jordanian security forces are not tools of oppression.
In referring to the pro-reform activism that has been ongoing in Jordan for over a year and a half, Majali noted that security dealt with popular activism "softly" as long as it did not violate the law.
Majali noted that security forces dealt with over 8,000 protests and activism events in the past year and 9 months, and considered that Jordan embraced the Arab Spring and its manifestations.
The 21st Asian Regional INTERPOL conference commenced today in the Jordanian capital Amman, aimed at discussing improvement of police cooperation between the Asian member countries and the crime situation. The conference is held between September 17 and 19, 2012.
