Campaign to Close Nightclubs in Amman Streets

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Hayat FM radio station will launch a campaign starting on Sunday to pressure officials to close nightclubs that are located on Mecca Al Mukaramah and Al Madinah Al Munawarah streets in Amman.

The campaign said that the nightclubs should be closed considering the sacredness of the names of the two main streets in western Amman.

The campaign includes allocating Sunday radio programs to focus on this issue by hosting public, religious and legal officials and experts to discuss the issue from religious, legal, and social perspectives.

The Jordanian Engineers' Association, the biggest and most prominent trade union, will hold a symposium on Monday to discuss the campaign and the case of nightclubs in the kingdom, and will hold a protest on Tuesday.

A group of lawyers and legal experts volunteered to form a lobby group to pressure the government to close the nightclubs.

Campaign coordinator and media spokesperson of Hayat FM Khader Al Mashayekh said that the campaign aims to shut down the nightclubs on the two main roads after numerous complaints were received from citizens, and after MP Ahmad Hararah brought up the issue in a parliament session.

He added that the complaints continue to pour in from residents living in the area, objecting to loud noises and inappropriate behavior emanating from the nightclubs.

It is noted that the program, "Sawt Hayat" with its host Hussam Gharaybeh, stirred up the issue in last week's program, receiving noticeable attention from citizens and civil society groups.
