Princess Sumaya, Japanese ambassador visit Jordan Museum

AMMAN - Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Vice Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Jordan Museum, accompanied Japanese Ambassador in Amman Tetsuo Shioguchi on a visit to the Jordan Museum on Tuesday.
Princess Sumaya thanked the ambassador for the technical support provided by Japan to the project through JICA to complete construction work at the museum.
Director General of the Jordan Museum Dr. Faris Nimry highlighted the importance of the museum as a cultural center connecting east and west of Amman.
"The idea of establishing a national museum for Jordan started in 1980 when His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal, who chaired the First Conference on the History and Archeology of Jordan at Oxford recommended the establishment of a "national museum, he added.
The director said that a loan agreement was signed with the Japanese Government to finance the "Tourism Sector Development Project" with its 7 sub-projects, including the " Jordan Museum".
In October 2005 Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah laid the cornerstone of the museum building designed by Jordanian architect Jafar Tukan.
Nimry stated that the museum will provide five services, namely: Exhibition which contains 3 main galleries: archaeological, folklore, and the modern and contemporary history of Jordan ; Collection and Conservation of Artifacts; Education and Community Outreach; Research and Publications; and finally Visitors Services.
During the visit, the ambassador and the accompanying delegation made a tour in the museum and expressed satisfaction at the performance of work.
At the end of the visit, the Japanese ambassador thanked Her Highness for her hospitality and sponsorship of the Jordan Museum.
