Syria: Suspicious parties were seeking to damage relations with Jordan
Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said the Syrian Arab Republic is fully convinced that suspicious parties are working hard to undermine the distinguished fraternal relations between Syria and Jordan, sow discord, heighten tensions and spark crises between the two neighbouring countries.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry said that, in a demonstration of the wisdom of both countries’ leaderships and their firm commitment to preserving these fraternal ties, work is underway to establish an urgent joint field and security committee through direct coordination. The committee aims to put an end to field violations and breaches, prevent their recurrence, regulate and secure the protection of the shared border, and ensure full security and field coordination to thwart anyone seeking to undermine the security of the two countries and shed the blood of their people.
The Jordanian government had earlier announced that it would work with its Syrian counterparts to establish a joint committee to follow up on the repercussions of the operation carried out by the Jordanian Air Force against ISIS and enhance coordination in combating the terrorist organisation, in a manner that safeguards the security of both countries and their peoples and protects civilians.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed the deep-rooted historical and fraternal relations between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, saying the ties have reached their strongest point in terms of mutual understanding and a shared commitment to the interests of both peoples. It added that Syria is following the latest security and field developments along the shared border with great concern and attention.
At the same time, Syria expressed its condemnation and rejection of the Jordanian operations carried out on Monday against several sites in Daraa Governorate.
The Syrian Arab Republic also renewed its strongest condemnation of what it described as the treacherous and criminal attack on St. George’s Church in Karak several days ago, calling it a flagrant assault on religious and humanitarian values and a despicable attempt to undermine Jordan’s cohesive social fabric.
