Hundreds of trucks, vehicles stranded at Jaber Border Crossing
Hundreds of trucks, vehicles and passenger buses were left stranded along the road leading to the Jaber Border Crossing following the closure of Syria's Nasib crossing with Jordan in both directions by a decision of Syria's General Authority for Ports and Customs.
Trucks and vehicles formed queues stretching approximately three kilometres and were prevented from entering the Jaber Border Crossing, raising concerns over the impact on transported goods.
The decision to close the Syrian Nasib crossing followed airstrikes carried out by the Royal Jordanian Air Force targeting sites in southern Syria, amid unconfirmed reports of attacks on Jordanian vehicles near the crossing.
The Jaber Border Crossing is a key land route for transport and trade in the region, linking Jordan with Syria and facilitating truck movement between Gulf countries and Europe. More than 350,000 trucks have passed through the crossing so far this year.
The Traffic Department is working to regulate the movement of trucks and vehicles backed up along the international highway, as border traffic remains suspended and travellers and truck drivers await the resumption of operations at the crossing.
