Iran rejects reopening Hormuz, prepares for new US strikes
An informed Iranian source told Tasnim News Agency that Tehran rejects any arrangement involving the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting the blockade, stressing that Iran is capable of circumventing the blockade through its own means and ultimately breaking it.
The source added that Iran’s position is to implement its seven conditions, noting that Tehran has not submitted any new proposals to the Pakistani mediator.
The source also stressed that insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz, which the source said was being imposed by the United States, would not end until all Iranian demands were met, including the lifting of restrictions on Iranian ports and maritime navigation.
In a related development, Bloomberg reported, citing informed sources, that Iran is preparing for a new US bombing campaign during the US midterm elections and is planning to retaliate across the region.
The sources said the period between the US elections and the new Congress taking office in early January will be the most challenging.
The agency also quoted officials in the shipping and maritime security sectors as saying that Iran has increased its attacks on ships in or near the Strait of Hormuz. They noted that the attacks have caused more severe damage than at the beginning of the conflict, with guided missiles being used instead of drones.
