196 home-based business licenses issued in Amman since start of 2026
The number of home-based business licenses issued by the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) from the beginning of 2026 through September reached 196 licenses, while the number of active licenses related to food production stood at 229, according to GAM's Director of Business Licensing and Advertisements, Tareq Al-Qahyoui.
Al-Qahyoui, as quoted by Al-Mamlaka TV, said that the municipality issued 42 new food production licenses since the start of the year, noting that intellectual professions are the most common category applying for home-based business licenses.
The home-based business licensing regulations aim to enable more individuals to start and operate their businesses at lower costs and through simplified procedures.
Licensed home-based businesses fall into four main categories: intellectual professions, handicrafts, food production, and home services. These include a variety of activities that can be carried out from home in accordance with approved technical and regulatory requirements.
For home-based food production activities, the municipality requires approval from the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), along with all necessary approvals from relevant authorities, in addition to compliance with public safety, health, and environmental standards.
The regulations allow the licensing of various intellectual professions, handicrafts, food production activities, and home services, provided they adhere to permitted space limits within the home, avoid causing disturbance to neighbors, and preserve the residential character of the area.
The Jordan Food and Drug Administration has launched an awareness campaign on the procedures and requirements for licensing home-based food businesses and food safety standards. The campaign includes a series of awareness activities across the Kingdom aimed at simplifying procedures and identifying challenges faced by business owners.
The JFDA said the campaign is part of its awareness and guidance role, which extends beyond regulatory oversight to promoting compliance with food safety requirements, supporting home-based food businesses, enhancing product safety and quality, strengthening consumer confidence, and contributing to the development of these projects.
