Al-Yarmouk school evacuated amid gastroenteritis symptoms
Yarmouk University said on Thursday that symptoms of intestinal inflammation were detected among a number of students at its affiliated Model School, noting that the situation was handled immediately and in an organized manner in accordance with approved health procedures and in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Vice President for Academic Affairs, Professor Amjad Deifallah Al-Nasser, said the necessary medical care was provided to cases that required it, adding that the students’ health conditions are stable and under monitoring.
He explained that, as a precautionary measure, the school was evacuated and the necessary preventive steps were taken until medical examinations and related investigations are completed. Health authorities indicated that the cause is expected to be identified within 48 hours after laboratory tests are finalized.
The university stressed that it is continuously following developments and remains fully committed to the safety of students and staff.
Earlier, Director of Health in Irbid Governorate, Dr. Shadi Bani Hani, said the directorate had taken immediate precautionary measures after reports that 48 students showed symptoms including abdominal pain, fever, and diarrhea.
