Unsafe abandoned building near school demolished in Irbid
Greater Irbid Municipality on Thursday removed an old, abandoned, and dilapidated building in the Manara area west of Irbid, which had become a health nuisance and a threat to public safety.
Municipality spokesperson Ghaith Al-Tal said municipal crews carried out the demolition in coordination with the property owners, following a field inspection that showed the building—located near a public school—posed a serious risk to residents and passersby due to its deteriorated condition and the possibility of collapse, in addition to its environmental and health hazards.
The municipality will continue identifying and removing abandoned and unsafe structures in accordance with legal procedures, as they create health hazards and hotspots for waste and insects, in addition to structural dangers, Al-Tal added, calling on citizens to cooperate with the municipality and report similar sites to help protect public safety and the environment.
