Jensen Ackles returns to Tracker in violent reunion with Justin Hartley in season 3 premiere
Tracker season 3 kicks off with a dramatic Shaw family reunion, but it’s not the one viewers might be expecting. In EW's exclusive sneak peek at the season premiere, Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) is helping a bartender who is being bothered by a patron when a fight breaks out. The skilled survivalist is taking down the stranger and his friends with ease when he suddenly swings at a very special bystander: his brother Russell.
“Can you get an ice pack for my brother’s face? I can’t have him looking any uglier,” Colter says to the bartender after the brothers finish off the harassers.
But the season won't be all family drama. Tracker kicks off the new season with a high-stakes, two-part case that will see Colter welcoming Russell's help. It begins as a routine missing persons case involving the wife and daughter of a client of Reenie’s, but quickly escalates into a dangerous confrontation with an underground operation called “The Process.”
While Russell's return is a welcome surprise, it’s Colter’s mother, Mary Dove Shaw (Wendy Crewson), who many want to see him reunite with. In the jaw-dropping season 2 finale, Colter uncovered a shocking revelation about his father’s death, which has haunted him since his childhood. It turns out the man who pushed his father off a cliff says he did it because Colter’s mother asked for his help. Now, with the mystery hanging over their family, Colter (and viewers) are desperate for answers. Why did Mary hide the truth from her children?
Colter has a lot to unpack with Russell after learning that heavy truth. As a young boy, Colter saw his brother standing on the cliff and thought it was Russell who killed their father. That moment has caused a massive rift between the siblings that has lasted into their adulthood. Now, they have to confront their painful past.
Russell returns to discover the new formation of Colter’s team. Original cast members Velma Bruin (Abby McEnany), who served as Colter’s handler, and his skilled hacker Bobby Exley (Eric Graise) will not be returning for the third season. Bobby’s cousin Randy (Chris Lee), who joined in season 2, will continue to recur and help out Colter as needed alongside attorney Reenie Greene (Fiona Rene).
Russell’s return is a welcome sight for fans, but the real question on everyone’s mind is: When will Colter finally face the mother who’s been hiding the truth for so long?
Tracker returns with season 3 Oct. 19 on CBS.
