Licensed building area rises 19.8% in first third of 2025
The total licensed building area in Jordan reached 3.032 million square meters during the first third of 2025, marking a 19.8 percent increase compared to 2.530 million square meters during the same period in 2024, according to the Department of Statistics.
The department’s monthly report on urban activity and building permits revealed that 7,253 building permits were issued during the first third of this year, up 7.8 percent from 6,730 permits issued in the same period last year.
The area licensed for residential purposes totaled 2.243 million square meters, reflecting a 10.7 percent rise compared to 2.027 million square meters last year. Non-residential building permits accounted for 789,000 square meters, showing a significant increase of 56.9 percent over the same period.
Residential buildings represented 74 percent of the total licensed area, while 26 percent was designated for non-residential purposes.
Regionally, the Central Region accounted for the largest share at 27 percent of total licensed area, up 6.4 percent. The Northern Region contributed 19.6 percent, down 16.9 percent, while the Southern Region made up 8.4 percent, reflecting a 3.4 percent decrease. Petra
