Interior Ministry explains reason for overcrowding at King Hussein Bridge

Due to the Israeli measures taken at King Hussein Bridge (KHB), the working hours will commence at 9am until 5pm in the evening throughout the week, except for Fridays, which will be from 9am to 12:30pm, a responsible source in the Ministry of Interior announced.

As Saturday is a holiday on the other side, a total of 15 buses will be operated only for Palestinian Umrah performers and 30 others for travelers only to the Israeli side, which has led to the current overcrowding, in terms of the number of departing passengers.

Since the beginning of the year, the source announced 21,612 Palestinian Umrah performers arrived via the bridge, marking an increase in their numbers driven by the Israeli steps.

Meanwhile, a total of 16,694 Palestinians returned via the bridge during the same period, including Umrah performers and other visitors to the West Bank.

The source added that the ministry is 'keen' to inform travelers of the conditions of overcrowding and congestion and take these data into account.

The KHB's administration is working to take all 'necessary' measures and procedures to provide the 'best' service to travelers, and maintain direct contact with the Israeli side to increase buses heading to the West Bank to absorb the increasing number of travelers, the official pointed out. Petra
