AMMONNEWS - State Minister for Media Affairs Jumana Gunimat Friday said concerned agencies are following up on rescue operations in a number of regions, where rainfall was heavy, triggering flashfloods and road closures.
The minister, who is also the government spokesperson, also said the unstable weather resulted in the death of a young girl and left 11 persons with fair-to-critical injuries in the Madaba governorate, where reports of missing persons were also made and security forces are searching for them.
She, moreover, added that authorities had evacuated citizens in the Petra tourist region, where 3,762 travellers from different nationalities were reported to be in the area, but they were evacuated.
The spokesperson also said heavy downpours in the Petra region flooded Wadi Musa area, rising water level to 4 meters in some areas.
