AMMONNEWS - No COVID-19 infections have been reported in the northern governorate of Irbid, Jordan’s second most-populated city, until Sunday morning for the 8th day in a row, a top health official said on Sunday.

"Based on preliminary indicators of a number of samples collected yesterday through this morning, it is not likely they will test positive," said Wael Hayajneh, the official overseeing the coronavirus situation in the northern region.

He said the results of intensive testing carried over the past two days of contacts of confirmed cases came back negative, leading authorities to suspend the lockdown imposed on some residential buildings and towns.
He assured that the governorate is on a path of recovery with the outbreak expected to recede significantly over the next coming days or weeks.

Hayajneh indicated that 25 epidemiological investigation teams are now scouring the villages and towns of Irbid as part of a comprehensive linear testing plan that envisages the testing of those who delivered basic services to citizens over the past few days and those who dealt directly with the public.

The official said that it is expected to collect between 250 to 300 samples, bringing the total number of samples taken in the governorate since the beginning of the crisis to about 5,500.
