AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday said that the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) is a major pillar towards the establishment of a new era in Jordan's history and that all Jordanian are looking forward to seeing parliamentary elections held this year in accordance with highest transparency, fairness, and impartiality criteria. The King told President of the IEC, Abdul Elah al-Khatib and members of its board of commissioners, that he will not allow any delay or hindrance to the commission's work, pledging full support to the body to arrive at free and fair parliamentary elections before the end of this year.
He stressed that the outcome of the elections should be a strong legislature representative of all components of the society and carries out its legislative and monitoring role.
King Abdullah stressed that political reform is based on the commission's success in carrying out its duties until arriving at parliamentary polls that rise to "our people's aspirations for a better future." Al-Khatib said the commission will live up to the ambitions of His Majesty the King and the Jordanian people and will assume its role with full responsibility, objectivity and neutrality.
The IEC told Petra and Jordan Television that the body has started taking measures to set up its constitutional frame and hire qualified staff.
