Heavy rains flood thousands of displacement tents across Gaza, two injured in building collapse

07-11-2026 03:08 PM

Ammon News - Heavy rainfall flooded thousands of tents sheltering displaced Palestinians across the Gaza Strip, worsening their already dire humanitarian conditions amid harsh weather, a lack of resources and inadequate protection. Two Palestinians were also injured after a wall of a building previously damaged by Israeli bombardment collapsed in northern Gaza due to the heavy rain.

Rainwater inundated thousands of tents, particularly those set up in low-lying areas, seeping inside and damaging the belongings of displaced families. Concerns are mounting over further deterioration as the storm system continues to affect the Palestinian territories.

They added that two Palestinians were injured when a wall of a building in northern Gaza, previously hit by Israeli bombardment, collapsed under the impact of heavy rainfall, which further weakened damaged structures already at risk of collapse.

These developments come as tens of thousands of Palestinians face extremely harsh humanitarian conditions after Israeli forces destroyed their homes during the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, forcing them to seek shelter in makeshift tents made of nylon and thin fabric that offer little protection from rain, wind and severe cold.

An estimated 270,000 tents are sheltering displaced families across the Gaza Strip. More than 400,000 displaced people are living in highly vulnerable locations exposed to flooding and rainwater accumulation, or near the seashore, increasing their risk during storms and severe winter weather.

The lack of fuel and heating supplies further compounds their suffering, leaving families unable to keep their children and elderly members warm as temperatures drop at night and rainwater seeps into their shelters.

The suffering of displaced families intensifies with every storm system, amid continued destruction of infrastructure and homes and shortages of essential supplies and shelter materials. Thousands of families remain exposed to the dangers of cold weather, flooding and the collapse of damaged buildings, as the urgent need grows for adequate tents, heating equipment and emergency supplies to protect them from the harsh weather conditions.
