Ammon News - The diversion to Saudi Arabia of a flydubai flight to Israel on Wednesday is not believed to be a hijacking incident, a spokesperson for the Israeli prime minister's office said.
This statement followed reports by Hebrew media earlier Wednesday regarding a serious incident involving a Tel Aviv-bound plane—suspected to be a hijacking—after distress codes were transmitted.
The aircraft, en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv, briefly broadcast the emergency code "7700," followed by the code "7500"—an aviation code used to signal a suspected hijacking.
According to Ynet newspaper, Israeli Air Force jets were scrambled to respond to the incident, though the circumstances remain unclear at this stage.
The aircraft did not continue on its planned flight path; contact was lost, and signal transmissions ceased. There were approximately 180 passengers on board.
The newspaper reported that the circumstances of the incident remain ambiguous, and it is unknown whether the transmission of the hijacking code resulted from an actual hijacking attempt or another cause.
Israel's Channel 12 reported a "security incident" on board the flight, noting that it had taken off from Dubai bound for Tel Aviv before altering its course.
Three Israeli security officials told Reuters that Prime Minister Netanyahu was holding consultations regarding the diverted Flydubai flight from the UAE to Israel. Reuters also cited an Israeli source as saying that the plane is expected to land in Saudi Arabia, and the situation will become clearer after that.
