FM: Nothing justifies international community’s failure to protect Palestinian children

24-09-2026 11:04 AM

Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, representing Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, participated on Wednesday in a session titled "Reaffirming the Promise of Peace: Harnessing the Power We Have," opened by Finnish President Alexander Stubb on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.

The session, hosted by Finland, discussed challenges facing international peace efforts and ways to overcome them. Participants included Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir, and Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi.

Safadi also co-chaired, alongside Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation Maxime Prévot and European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib, a meeting on the “Call to Action for Children in Palestine in the West Bank and Gaza Strip” initiative.

In his opening remarks, Safadi stressed that nothing justifies the international community’s failure to protect Palestinian children from Israeli attacks. He said more than 20,000 children have been killed in Gaza, while more than 700,000 Palestinian children have been deprived of food, medicine and education.

He said King Abdullah II made clear in his address to the UN General Assembly that the continuation of Israeli violations is linked to the international community’s failure to use the available tools to stop them.

Safadi also chaired a meeting on the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law, launched by Jordan, Brazil, China, France, Kazakhstan and South Africa in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross. The meeting discussed preparations for the high-level conference "Safeguarding Humanity in War," which Jordan will host on December 7, 2026.

Safadi delivered a joint statement on behalf of Jordan and the initiative’s founding countries, stressing the importance of renewing commitment to international humanitarian law.

Safadi and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong also participated in an event marking the first anniversary of the launch of the Declaration for the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel, launched by a group of countries including Jordan, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Japan, Sierra Leone, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Safadi said 130 countries have joined the declaration since its launch, stressing the need for all states to endorse it, commit to protecting humanitarian workers, and reject attacks against them.

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings, Safadi held meetings with several foreign ministers and participating officials to discuss bilateral relations and developments in the region.
