23-09-2026 10:30 AM

Ammon News - His Majesty King Abdullah II’s speech before the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday drew significant attention from international media, with coverage focusing on His Majesty’s positions on the war in Gaza, developments in the West Bank, and the forced displacement of Palestinians, as well as his warnings about the repercussions of Israeli policies on the security and stability of the region.

The international attention to His Majesty’s speech, which lasted around 20 minutes, came after the King highlighted before the world the Israeli practices in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and shed light on their humanitarian, political, and legal repercussions. He also stressed that any threat to Jordan’s northern borders or water security constitutes a threat to Jordan’s national security.

The "Associated Press" highlighted King Abdullah’s speech in its coverage of the opening of the General Assembly, noting that a number of world leaders used the UN platform to criticize Israeli policies in Gaza and call for the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The agency quoted His Majesty as warning that Israeli policies in Gaza and the West Bank are aimed at making the establishment of a Palestinian state impossible.

Meanwhile, the British newspaper "The Guardian" highlighted the King’s criticism of international inaction toward violations in the Palestinian territories and emphasized his question about the value of international law and how it can be enforced if its violations are not addressed.

Israeli Newspapers

The Israeli newspaper "Haaretz" covered King Abdullah’s speech in a report focusing on the positions of the leaders of Jordan, Türkiye, and Qatar during the UN General Assembly meetings. It highlighted the King’s description of the Israeli government’s expansionist policies as posing a regional threat, as well as his warning against attempts to erase the Palestinian presence in Gaza.

The "Times of Israel" also focused on the King’s warnings regarding developments in southern Syria, quoting his assertion that any threat to the Kingdom’s northern borders or water security constitutes a threat to Jordan’s national security.

In a similar context, "Ynet" covered King Abdullah’s speech in a report on the tone of speeches directed against Israel during the UN General Assembly meetings. The report noted the repeated use of terms such as genocide, concentration camp, and war crime by world leaders in their criticism of Israel.

The newspaper noted that the tone of King Abdullah’s remarks was no less forceful, despite Jordan being a country that has a peace treaty with Israel.
