Oman energy minister says Strait of Hormuz disruptions are short term

14-09-2026 08:45 AM

Ammon News - Oman’s energy minister said on Monday that the disruption to the Strait of Hormuz is probably a short-term situation, Reuters reports.

Salim Al Aufi said the situation should stabilise in the medium term.

Saudi Arabia has made changes to the joint proposal of Oman and Iran on the Strait of Hormuz. On September 13, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported this, citing an American official.

"Saudi Arabia has amended the joint proposal of Oman and Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz," he wrote on the social network.

The initiative of the amendments was the fear of the kingdom that the proposed formulations could actually consolidate a new status quo in the strait, unacceptable to Saudi Arabia or other states in the region.

On the same day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, announced that the main topic of the upcoming consultations of the Persian Gulf countries in Oman would be the approval of a new special maritime corridor for the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi stressed that it does not imply lifting the general regime of blocking the strait.
