Ammon News - Head of Operations at the Traffic Department, Lt. Col. Zaid Al-Khazaleh, said on Sunday that the department has put in place a comprehensive traffic plan to coincide with the start of the new academic year, aiming to manage traffic flow and enhance deployment around schools and key intersections.

He explained that the plan takes into account the locations of schools across Amman and the governorates, with traffic personnel distributed according to each school's location and the nature of surrounding traffic movement.

Al-Khazaleh noted that some schools are located on major roads, while others are situated near vital intersections, requiring different levels of traffic personnel deployment, as well as patrol units and female police officers, depending on each location's needs.

Traffic officers begin deployment from the early morning hours, starting at 6:00 a.m. at major intersections to monitor traffic and facilitate the movement of students and parents heading to schools, while also managing regular traffic on main and secondary roads.

He added that the plan includes an awareness component alongside traffic management efforts, in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate's Public Relations Department and Community Police. Awareness activities are conducted in schools at the beginning of each academic year.

The campaign includes distributing guidance booklets to students and parents around schools, teaching students how to cross roads safely using pedestrian crossings, and educating them on safe boarding and disembarking from school transport vehicles.

Al-Khazaleh stressed that traffic measures around schools are closely monitored, especially during morning peak hours when both students and employees are commuting.

He urged parents who drive their children to school to leave home early to avoid congestion and help maintain smooth traffic flow, particularly between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.

He noted that traffic patterns change with the start of the school year following the summer break, as schools generally begin classes at similar times, increasing pressure on major roads during morning hours.

A total of 2.2 million students returned to classrooms across Jordan on Sunday, marking the start of the 2026/2027 academic year, according to the school calendar approved by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development.
